The magnificent Hunter Valley Lodge & Retreat is set on five beautiful acres of lawns and gardens and has been designed and furnished with every comfort in mind. This property is located in the heart of the Hunter Valley wine region with spectacular views and only minutes away from absolutely everything the Hunter Valley has to offer. The Lodge is the perfect solution for large or corporate groups who want to spend time together but also enjoy their own private space. As you weave your way down the tree-lined driveway, you will pass our two life-sized bronze deer that watch over this very special space. The Lodge’s interior has been modelled on a traditional Canadian hunting lodge, complete with a huge stone fireplace and soaring cathedral ceilings in the central lounge area to create a natural ambience throughout the rest of the building.

The Hunter Valley Lodge & Retreat has eleven spacious bedrooms and eight bathrooms that can accomodate up to 33 guests in comfort and style. With magnificent wrap around verandahs, a refreshing swimming pool and a relaxing jacuzzi, a huge games room with a billiard/pool table, table tennis and cinema area, a bocce court, outdoor chess, croquet area, basketball net and a huge impressive entertainment and sun deck with stunning views to the Broken Back Range.
The Hunter Valley Lodge & Retreat consists of four buildings which are a short walk from each other. The Lodge building has six spacious guest suites and five bathrooms. The Retreat, which is adjacent to the main house, has a further four spacious bedrooms and two bathrooms. The Bison Den is our games and cinema room. The Lion’s Den is a modern self-contained converted shipping container studio located at the rear of the property and can be rented in addition to the Lodge and Retreat to provide an extra bedroom and bathroom if required. The Hunter Valley Lodge & Retreat can accommodate 31 guests in the Lodge and Retreat buildings, and 33 guests with the inclusion of the Lion’s Den or 28 guests in their own individual beds.
The Lodge building features a modern semi-commercial gourmet kitchen with quality appliances including two large ovens, two dishwashers and absolutely everything you could possibly want or need to create your own Masterchef meal. The large dining area has a magnificent custom-made oversized table and offers a relaxed atmosphere where guests can dine together and enjoy the peace and serenity of this beautiful setting. The Retreat (which is adjacent to the Lodge) has its own brand new kitchen and a lounge area plus an additional outside entertainment area. The Lion’s Den is a quirky modern self-contained dwelling in a private location at the rear of the property. There is also a large pet enclosure for your furry loved ones.
This unique property was specifically built for large group self-contained accommodation in the Hunter Valley. It is perfect for groups of friends, family getaways, small weddings and corporate meetings or off-sites. You can relax on the deck in the evening and listen to the roar of the four lions, who are our newest neighbours at the Hunter Valley Zoo. Surreal!

All bedrooms have luxurious commercial quality Sealy beds and mattresses and all are equipped with a desk, desk lamp and additional seating. Many of the King beds can be split into two King singles if required. All beds are made with crisp cotton commercially laundered linen with a firm and a soft pillow selection for each bed. A light quilt is used during the summer months and two quilts in the winter. There is also a good selection of warm blankets. We provide bath towels and all bathrooms have bath mats and hand towels.

The Lodge
The Lodge building consists of six spacious bedrooms – three on the ground floor with two large bathrooms (one with a freestanding bath). The ground floor bedrooms are all unique. The massive Stag Room with its four-poster King bed can accommodate 2 to 5 guests if required by adding another King bed and/or three King single beds.
The Whitetail Room has a Queen bed and King single bunk beds separated by privacy curtains. The Chital Room is the third bedroom and has a Queen bed. On the first floor, we have three large bedrooms (Caribou, Muntjak and Sambar) with their own ensuites and King beds (which can be split into King singles if required). Each of these rooms can also accommodate an additional single bed if required.
The Lodge has seven reverse cycle air conditioners and all rooms have ceiling fans and heating. The Lodge has a large central lounge area on the ground floor with huge fireplace plus a TV lounge on the first floor. The dining room has an oversized dining table that can seat 24 guests with a second table for an additional 4 guests.
The semi-commercial kitchen is fully equipped with cutlery, crockery and glassware for up to 35 guests. The kitchen also has an extensive range of cookware and utensils. There are two separate ovens plus a microwave oven and two dishwashers. There is a large fridge/freezer in the kitchen plus a large commercial glass-fronted drinks fridge in the dining room. Other kitchen equipment consists of two toasters, two kettles, two Nespresso machines, blenders, rice cooker and electric fry pan.
The outside entertainment area is perfect for groups and consists of a swimming pool and 5-person hot tub surrounded by a large deck. The deck area is covered by shade sail and has a dining table which can seat up to 26 guests, an outside lounge seating area and sun loungers plus a BBQ area that has both a hooded BBQ and a flat top BBQ.
The Retreat
The Retreat consists of four bedrooms and two modern bathrooms. The two bedrooms on the ground floor (Werekata and Yengo) have Queen beds and the two bedrooms on the first floor (Watagan and Flat Rock) have King beds with an additional King single bed. The King beds on the first floor can be split into King singles if required. There is a single sofabed in the lounge area. All bedrooms at the Retreat have heating and ceiling fans and there is gas heating on the ground floor and reverse cycle air conditioning on the first floor.
The Retreat has a modern kitchen/dining room with dishwasher, oven, gas cooktop, microwave, kettle and toaster and Nespresso machine. The kitchen is equipped with crockery, cutlery and glassware for up to 12 guests. There is also a large TV lounge on the first floor and an outside entertainment area with table and chairs.
The Studio
The Lion’s Den Studio is a private modern converted shipping container to the rear of the property and has a bedroom with a Queen bed, bathroom, kitchenette, lounge area and a small sundeck. There is also a single sofa bed in the lounge, TV, fridge, Nespresso coffee machine and kettle.

Security Deposit
A security deposit/bond of $2000 is required for your stay and is payable as a credit card pre-authorisation. This payment will be processed approximately 24–48 hours before your arrival and expire 3-6 days after departure.

Amazing wine country experience inside and outside! Over 25 people, who were soon to become one family, via a wedding, spent 3 days together in the most wonderful accommodation.
We looked at spectacular sunsets and fog covered mountain views, laid back in quiet areas, gathered noisily in the huge games room / den, dined in style at the “long table” in the dining room and chatted around the fireplace under the cathedral ceilings, after too many lovely wines.
Location
The Hunter Valley Lodge and Retreat is located on the border of Lovedale and Nulkaba. You can access it easily by taking the Cessnock exit on the M1 or the Lovedale exit on the Hunter Expressway.
From the Hunter Expressway, take the Lovedale Rd exit and at the roundabout, turn onto Lovedale Rd towards Cessnock. Continue to the end of Lovedale Rd and turn left into Wine Country Drive.
Follow the road and turn left at Lomas Lane (signposted Hunter Valley Zoo). Continue along the road for 1.9kms and turn right into the Hunter Valley Lodge and Retreat driveway.
Follow the driveway and park at the side of the main Lodge building and Retreat – please do not park on the grass to the rear of the Lodge.
Alternatively, take the Cessnock exit from the M1 and follow the Cessnock signs via Freemans Waterhole, Brunkerville and Kearsley

Drive past Potters Brewery and turn right onto Lomas Lane on the corner of the St Phillips School (signposted Hunter Valley Zoo).
Continue along the road for 1.9kms and turn right into the Hunter Valley Lodge and Retreat driveway.
Follow the driveway and park at the side of the main Lodge building and Retreat – please do not park on the grass to the rear of the Lodge.
The Lodge is located on the edge of the Werakata National Park with lots of trails for a morning walk through the National Park. Furthermore, the Lodge is only 0.5km from the fantastic Hunter Valley Zoo so if you want to get up close and personal with the animals, this is your zoo! Finally, the great wineries and restaurants of Lovedale and Pokolbin are just minutes away. Have fun!
